Evolution and Intelligent Design being taught in public schools is a growing controversy. Both supporters and augmenters have been clashing over different perspectives on wither intelligent design should replace evolution as part of the scientific curriculum. The controversy has lead to multiple court cases and religious dispute. The main issue when it comes to teaching this idea of science in our schools is the idea of conforming to an idea without solid evidence. Students whom are required to learn intelligent design rather than Darwin’s idea of evolution will be directly confronted on their moral and religious beliefs. In addition, students will develop a less understanding of science.

105). Thus the Academy of Science further supports the idea that intelligent Design is not science but a religious matter. Overall since, intelligent design focuses on religion it is not acceptable to be taught in schools and therefore should not be forced upon students.
The teaching of religious views in public schools has been a banned for quite some time now due to it being a violation of the first amendment. Therefore teaching the theory of intelligent design would alter this view due to the fact that Intelligent Design not only can be considered religious but also establishes a specific religious viewpoint. The theory of intelligent design takes a Christianity viewpoint. If intelligent design were to be taught in classrooms the educational boards would be forcing students to accept Christianity values and the idea that a God exist and he is the creator of life. The argument was recently seen in the Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District Case. In this federal case intelligent design was found to be a form of creationism, the idea that the universe originates from a divine creation, and therefore was unconstitutional to teach in American public schools (Schyeman, p. 189). Based on the results of the trial, it can be seen that according to legal viewpoint intelligent design takes a religious viewpoint that according to the constitution cannot be taught in schools.
To further explain why intelligent design should not be taught in classrooms in replacement to evolution is the fact that all science originates from the basis of evolution and therefore without teaching evolution there is no foundation for bioinformatics, proteomics and molecular biology.
