Reflection Of My Environmental Studies Trip To Hawaii

Over the years of my high school life I have had to cope and deal with various amounts of difficult obstacles that have, to some extent, held me back from reaching my goals. Over this last summer I struggled, but made it through the toughest thing I've ever experienced. I went on an environmental studies trip to the Hawaiian Islands that while was the most memorable, influential experience I've ever been able to accomplish, was still extremely challenging and completely different from my laid-back lifestyle. In order to go on this trip I was required to write 5 essays on different topics that are currently popular issues in Hawaii. This was quite a strenuous task for me because I've never had a strong gift in writing. But there was also a journal that had to be written in every day, a workbook full of work for every place we travelled to, and the fifteen page paper we had to write when we got back. I soon realized that was just the beginning of the many strenuous tasks to come, for once I got to the islands I was introduced to an entirely dissimilar lifestyle than the one I live.
When we arrived in Hawaii, we were required to wake up early every day to endure long days scheduled full of extensive work, both physical and educational. We would travel to popular national parks and areas where we had the option to do activities such as hiking up to 14 miles at a time through thick, tropical forests and lava rock valleys to reach our final destination where we would study the different environmental features. I've never been one to live an extremely physically active lifestyle, therefore hiking miles and miles every day was truly something I didn't have much experience with. After those intense journeys, I would be rewarded with the most satisfying nights of sleep imaginable....
