My desire to understand life is a huge intellectual challenge, because living things are the most complex structures we know of. By studying biology, I hope to gain adequate knowledge about the structure and complexity of living things and to establish a strong connection between the mundane explanations and details offered in my A-level biology text book. Understanding life is central to humanity's survival, because most of the looming pressure on our species - climate change, environmental degradation , emergent diseases , and population growth - impact on us via their effects on organisms .

Enrolling for an online Biology course offered by Prof . Eric Lander invigorated my passion for Biology. The course provided an opportunity for me to explore the fundamental aspect of molecular biology , genetics and biochemistry . As part of the course I was able to ; determine and analyze mode of gene inheritance by carrying out genetic crossing on fruit flies , study the effect of certain enzyme inhibitors on glycolysis pathways , and construct the primary structure of a protein from a sequence of nucleotides on a DNA strand .
I understand that Undergraduate courses are physically , emotionally , and socially more demanding than high school courses .
