Throughout American History, numerous events have occurred and made an incredible impact on the country, making it extremely different than what it was before. These particular events are called watersheds. The watershed event of the years 1932 to 1960 was the Montgomery Bus Boycott because African Americans were not treated equally previous to this movement and it was a substantial step towards equality for African Americans.

Once Parks was arrested, the Women’s Political Council (WPC) requested African Americans to stay off the buses and required them to walk to their destination. “The Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA) occurred to transport 90 percent of the African Americans to keep the Montgomery Bus Boycott going” (Roark, 770). Soon afterwards, a young Martin Luther King Jr. was elected as the leader of the MIA. He encouraged racial equality by connecting it to Christianity (Roark, 770). Later on, King was also chosen to be the head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), which was established to compensate protests against racial segregation (Roark, 770).
