Euthanasia And Why It Should Be Legal.

897 words - 4 pages

Euthanasia: Proper Medical ProcedureImagine being trapped in a hospital bed, with all sorts of medical equipment hooked toyou, unable to move or do much of anything. You are in pain and all you want, is to be unpluggedfrom the machines, so you can go home to your own bed, and die in peace. However, the doctorsrefuse to even consider doing this because they know it will lead to instant death. Being doctors, they believe they are there to save not to kill. Considering the amount of pain many people are inbefore they die, how much time they spend in the hospital, and the self respect they lose, euthanasia should be legal.Euthanasia, do you know what it is? Euthanasia is another term for doctor assistedsuicide, a Greek word that means easy death. Euthanasia is an easy way to die without goingthrough the grief and anguish that comes along with the disease or illness you may have. It isusually painless and what the patient wants to end their misery. The person can be hooked up to a"death machine" in which they are given a poison or drug. First, they are given something to putthem to sleep. Next, the lethal drug is administered, which ends their life. In some reported casesit has taken up to twenty minutes for the patient to die but, they felt almost nothing. Often theperson is simply given a prescription drug and told to overdose on it, so the doctor does not get introuble. There are certainly times when euthanasia is a proper medical procedure and times it isabsolutely wrong. The patient definitely needs to be a legal adult. People can't choose to die byeuthanasia just because they are depressed or whatever the case may be. They can't just turndown proper medical treatment that could save their life, and choose to die. The patient wouldalso need to have a grave medical illness or handicap that is restricting them from doing normaleveryday activities easily and pain free. Critically ill people have the right to euthanasia. No one wants to spend the rest of their life in pain. Not even animals have to live in pain, they can just be put sleep and no one even thinks twice about that being morally wrong or right. There is no evidence except for appearance, that states that animals are any different than humans.People do not even keep pets around that cannot do anything. How would you feel if you had todepend on someone to bathe, feed, even to dress you every day? A lot of people with debilitatingdiseases actually need someone to do just about everything for them. Usually, this ends up being afamily member or close friend. By having someone do everything for them, this causes...
