Euthaniasia: An Example Of Deviance Essay

One example of deviance that I would like to write about is euthanasia. The Webster's dictionary defines it as the act or practice of killing a suffering individual painlessly for reasons considered merciful. But, why do some accept certain kinds of killings, but not others. To tie in with another assignment, the death penalty was created to punish criminals who have created such unspeakable crimes. For some in society, the death penalty is acceptable and to others it is not. Euthanasia is as much of a murder as carrying out a death sentence. Now, in animal control centers run by some cities, it may be the norm to utilize euthanasia as a means of lessening the rapidly increasing animal population and also a painless way out for a suffering creature. On the other hand when dealing with humans there is certainly an uproar when this subject is approached due to the fact that it is indeed murder. It is a pre-meditated death which is caused by another. For instance, our "Angel of Death" (or quite possibly our "Grim Reaper") himself Dr. Jack Kevorkian has two methods of euthanasia, injection and carbon monoxide. Both forms are assisted by simply giving the individual the instruments, instructions, and medications. The patient then carries out his or her own death. In the case of the suicide by injection, Kevorkian supplies a machine that holds three separate canisters. One containing saline, the second filled with a sedative to put the person to sleep, and the third is filled with a lethal mixture of potassium chloride and a muscle relaxant.
