Human beings are curious by nature. Science exemplifies this inherent nature that most people feel at least to some extent. Science is the art of asking why. Why does the moon sometimes look like a perfect circle, a semi-circle, or disappears all together? Why do things fall to the ground when they are dropped? Why can a chair support a person against the force pulling him or her down? Why does a chair retain its shape, water take the shape of its container, but stays at the same amount, and perfume seem to fill the whole room? All theories have points of validation and instances that discredit them. For example, creationism which, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is “a doctrine or theory holding that matter, the various forms of life, and the world were created by God out of nothing and usually in the way described in Genesis”(creationism.) In the book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible, the forming of the earth is described as a 7 day experience in which God creates the heavens and the earth, day and night with the light he creates, the continents and plants, seasons and stars, sea creatures and creatures of the air, creatures on the earth and man (made in God’s image to rule over all the other creatures), He then rested the seventh day. The book of Genesis then proceeds to describe God making woman so as to be man’s helper and companion (NIV.) Evidence supporting creationism are things such as mankind is clearly different from other species. No other species celebrates holidays, build monuments, or change their surroundings and express themselves like humans do. These differences set humans apart from all other species and exemplify that mankind was made in God’s likeness.
