How To Focus On Your Studies: Key To Success

1192 words - 5 pages

Many students now fail to know on how to focus on their studies, and because of that ignorance, many students are failing on their grades. Many students now chose to stop on their studies because of addiction on computer games, vices, and the bad influences of their friends. There are many things that can take away our focus on our studies, but the question is: Do you have the guts to stop your bad habits like computer games, vices and hangouts just for your studies? And if other students are wondering on how to focus on their studies, I think the best way for them to focus is to have the key to success, which is self-discipline. In this research, you will know how to focus on your studies and get a better grade by having self-discipline on yourself.
What is Self Discipline?
According to Study Guides and Strategies (1996), Self-discipline is considerable as a type of training, creating new habits of thoughts, action, and speech toward developing yourself and reaching goals.
Discipline is freedom. For many people, discipline is a nasty word that is connected with the absence of freedom. As Stephen R. Covey once wrote, “the undisciplined are slaves to moods, appetites and passions”. Self-discipline demands doing according to what you “think” instead of how you “feel” in the moment. Self-discipline involves letting go of the pleasure and thrill of the moment for what matter most in life (Pick the Brain, 2008).

Self-Discipline will help you:
Set Your Goals
When setting goals for yourself, the most important thing is that it should motivate you. It means that your goal is important to you, and that there is value in attaining them. Motivation is the key to reaching goals. Set goals according to high priorities in your life. Without this type of focus, you can end up with too many goals, making you have less time to devote to each one. Achieving your goal requires commitment, to maximize the likelihood of success; you need to have a sense of urgency and an “I must do this” attitude (Mind Tools, n.d.).
Manage your Time
Time management is the capability to plan and control on how you spend your time effectively to accomplish your goals. Poor time management can be connected to procrastination. Skills involved in time management include planning for your future, setting your goals, prioritizing your tasks, and knowing where your time goes (Psychology Today, n.d.).
Being able to help yourself to become aware on how you are using your time as one resource in organizing, prioritizing, and succeeding in your studies in the conditions of being involved in the activities of friends, work, and family (Study Guides and Activities, 1996).

Know your Priorities
Prioritizing is giving different level of importance to different tasks on the road to success. Prioritize your activities neatly by making a list of activities that will not be helpful on reaching your...
