It is hard to believe that the world once communicated solely through face to face conversations, telephones, and email. Out of many ways of social networking, February 2004 brought something that made communication between people much easier and more preferred. Because of the way the social networking website, Facebook, changed how people keep in touch with each other, it has become known as the social networking site that is taking the world by surprise.
Facebook, as of January 2015, has over 900 million active users and more then half of them use Facebook on a daily basis. The growth and usage of Facebook will continue to accelerate due to the help of mobile phones. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook's clear point on Facebook is that "Facebook builds products — Photos, Groups, Messages — that people use more frequently than they use more established services with similar features because Facebook’s products are inherently social." (http://mashable.com/2010/11/16/facebook-social/). This quote from Mark Zuckerberg implies that people use Facebook because it is incredibly easy to use and it not as structured as other social networking websites.
Getting addicted to Facebook is so easy! They offer you anything from advertising products, to a large collection of games and other apps, such as anything from Horoscopes to creating online invites to birthday parties, graduation parties, and even work meetings. Now, those are just extra features to experiencing Facebook. The main reason why people use Facebook is to keep in touch with their friends and families. Compete.com estimates that compared to this time last year, Facebook visits are up %127!
Who is responsible for the most popular social network in the entire world? Believe it or not it was four students attending Harvard University. Mark Zuckeberg, the founder and chief executive officer, founded Facebook in February of 2004. He is responsible for the direction and infrastructure of the company. He attended Harvard University majoring in computer science. He later moved the company to Paloo Alto, California (Zuckerbrg bio facebook.com). Chris Hughes is a co-founder of the company. When he began he was the spokesperson out of his dorm room with Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovits. He also moved to Palo Alto to work on the team. Chris recently was the Director of Online Organizing for Barack Obamas 2008 presidential campaign. He graduated from Harvard as magna cum laude (Hughes bio facebook.com). Dustin Moskovits, co-founder, is the key leader in the technical staff. He attended Harvard University as an Economics major for two years before following his conrads to Palo Alto to work full-time at Facebook (Moskovits bio facebook.com). Last but not least is Edward Saverin, co-founder, managed the business development and sales when Facebook was still young. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in Economics (Saverin bio facebook.com).
