Many misconceptions about syndromes have led to social stigmatisms. Often the person living with a syndrome may live in denial for the sake of saving face. This lack of social acceptance can produce a level of anxiety that will prevent family members of the affected individual from seeking the necessary guidance to address those issues. Acceptance and patient is the key. Progress does not happen overnight. However with time, it does get easier to cope with and affect change in behavior, especially the behavior of the individual who has found themselves in the support role.

Although most cases of TS show mild symptoms that do not necessarily require pharmacological treatment there are extreme cases that require medication to control more severe symptoms. Often, behavioral therapy, reassurance, and information can be sufficient in addressing mild cases of TS. In identifying issues where treatment may be suggested are typically broken up into two major categories; Simple tics and Complex tics. Simple tics can be sudden with brief repetitive movements. Simple vocalizations might include repetitive throat-clearing, sniffing, or grunting sounds. Complex tics are more distinct, coordinated patterns of movements. It might include facial grimacing combined with a head twist and a shoulder shrug. Other complex motor tics may actually appear purposeful, including sniffing or touching objects, hopping, jumping, bending, or twisting. Now, comorbid conditions have a great effect on potential impairment than the actual target tics alone. Everyone who is dealing with target tics is not dealing with comorbid conditions as well, and likewise everyone dealing with the comorbid conditions is not dealing with the target tics. Anytime a person is living with comorbid conditions they will need to seek treatment. Typically treatment for comorbid conditions will take precedence or priority whenever present. Although there are treatments for these conditions, there is no known cure for TS and no two medications have been known to have an effect on different conditions. The real key to addressing tic disorders is to seek out the necessary education to have informative responses and have the knowledge and understanding to implement and a plan to manage it. Managing the issues may be a step in the right direction and prevent social isolations.
