Family Essay

2032 words - 9 pages

It is that time of year again, the time for family reunions. For some people it is the highlight of the summer, but for most it is the opposite. I know how one feels. I drag my feet to every family reunion. It’s not so much the people, but the location. Our family reunion takes place at the Lake of the Ozarks every year. “Oh, that sounds like fun.” It was at first, but now I dread the three day weekend and the five hour drive, only to spend time with people who I will never talk to again once I leave. Luckily, I have surviving family reunions down to a science. In order to survive a family reunion, one must pack for survival, spend time wisely, and learn to handle ones relatives with grace.
The first struggle is figuring out what to bring? I got this covered with my top five items to pack. Let the countdown begin! Item number five is bathroom necessities. I’m talking about shampoo, conditioner, soap, tooth paste, and toothbrush. All of those items are very important, because even if one doesn’t want to be there one still needs to smell nice. If the family reunion is only a day thing no need to worry about it. Number four on our list is a camera why one may ask? for pictures, of course! Uncle Mike doing something wild and outrageous take a picture or a video of it that just might get someone famous. Moving on to number three; snacks. Everyone loves dinner, but some need something in their bag to help get them between meals or even at night. Item number two’s money! Reunion shopping trips aren't going to be any fun without some greenbacks in ones pocket. Finally number one the most important thing to remember to shove into the suitcase is… Clothing! Let’s be honest, no one is going to get very far without some clothes on. Keep these items in mine while one gets ready for the family reunion having them could make or break the trip.
As said before clothing is the most important item to remember to take. The clothes one wears tells everyone how one feels and who they are. Picking out the right clothing to wear is life or death! Once again I’m here to help. The first step to figuring what kind of clothes to wear is to decide who one is trying to impress. Is it grandma? If so wear losing fitting comfortable clothes that don’t show too much skin. If it is younger relatives, try wearing the same basic thing but slightly higher fashion. Everyone loves a compliment or two. Now what about shoes? The process to picking the right shoes is, where and what is one doing? If the reunion takes place on a sunny beach and the whole time everyone going to be building sandcastles, sandals are the right choice for foot attire. But if the family reunion is a hiking trip and picnic followed by a scavenger hunt, then tennis shoes might be the best choice. One thing to keep in mind when choosing clothes to wear or bring, is that mother nature doesn’t always play nice. So always pack or carry along with oneself a sweatshirt or jacket.
Clothing may be the most...
