In the play Julius Caesar, there are two major speeches that occur. These speeches determine the fate of Marcus Brutus and Marcus Antony throughout the remainder of the play. These two speeches are made after the murder of Julius Caesar. The first to speak to the people of Rome is Marcus Brutus.Brutus starts his speech by saying, " Be patient till the last. Romans, countrymen, and lovers! Hear me for my cause, and be silent, that you may hear. Believe me for mine honor, and have respect to mine honor, that you may ...view middle of the document...

On top of letting Antony speak last, Brutus leaves while Antony is speaking to the people. The citizens of Rome quickly change their mind and support of Antony instead of Brutus. This is the beginning of the end for Brutus.Antony does a few crucial things while he is speaking. These things have an effect on the people and are the difference between Brutus's speech and Antony's. One thing Antony does is actually showing the body of Caesar to the people and telling them how many times he was stabbed. Antony also stops in the middle of his speech and mourns for Caesar. These two things have a huge effect on the people and were probably one of the reasons that they are on his side.Brutus does not seem to show any remorse or much sorrow during his speech and he is not as truthful as Antony. Brutus tells what happened but not in the detail or to the extent that Antony does. The fact that Antony speaks last also has effect on the people's decision to side with him.The speeches were somewhat the same, since they were both telling about the death of Julius Caesar. The main differences between the two speeches after they are made. The other difference is the people's reaction to each speech.
