Federico García LorcaFederico García Lorca nació el cinco de junio de 1898 en fuente Vaqueros, cerca de la ciudad de Granada. Hijo de un liberal, dueño de tierra, la creatividad de Lorca tomo rumbo temprano. Cuando niño, Lorca hablaba con objetos no reales, dándole a cada objeto una personalidad y hablándole como si fueran personas verdaderas que le podrían responder en cualquier momento. También cuando niño, Lorca estudió música, una actividad la cual enriqueció su sentido natural de la rima. En la adolescencia fue cuando él empezó a escribir poemas, los cuales recitaba en los cafés locales.En su juventud, Lorca estudió filosofía y leyes en la universidad de Granada, pero antes de terminar sus estudios los abandono para estudiar literatura, arte y teatro. En 1918, él publicó un libro de prosa, el cual fue inspirado por un viaje que él había hecho a Castilla. En 1919, Lorca se cambió a la universidad de Madrid, adonde organizaba presentaciones teatrales y continuó leyendo sus poemas en publico. Durante este periodo, Lorca se asoció con un grupo de artistas los cuales después fueron conocidos como la Generación del 27. Este grupo incluía al pintor Salvador Dalí, el cinematográfico Luis Bunuel y el poeta Rafael Alberti.La primera producción teatral de Lorca fue El maleficio de la mariposa en 1920. Esta obra abrió en el teatro Eslava en Madrid. Aunque la obra solo duro una noche, le dio a Lorca su primer estrellato teatral. Él publicó su primer libro de poemas en 1921, y siete años después su libro de poemas Romancero Gitano lo hizo famoso en toda España. El publico le dio a Lorca el nombre "Poeta Gitano," el cual no le gustó a él. Debido en parte a este nombre, Lorca se mudo a Nueva York en 1929, para estudiar inglés en la Universidad de Columbia, adonde el vino en contacto con grupos de teatros y compañías profesionales. Este viaje fue la inspiración del libro de poemas "Poeta en Nueva York."Lorca regresó a España en 1931, y formo su propia compañía de teatro, "La Barraca." Formada mayormente de estudiantes, "La Barraca" viajo por el país dando funciones gratis de los clásicos españoles, incluyendo los trabajos de Lope de Vega, Pedro Calderón de la Barca y Miguel de Cervantes. El teatro también produjo las tres tragedias en las cuales descansa la reputación de Lorca.La primera de estas tres tragedias es Bodas de sangre, escrita en 1933.
