Did you know that over 50 million people in the United States do not have enough food to eat? These people do not have enough food to eat due to others throwing their food away because of spoilage, funny-looking food, and leftovers. Individuals do not realize that the food they are throwing away can be used for not only feeding families, but providing others with resources. However, there are many solutions people could do in order to prevent food going to waste. In order to reduce food waste, individuals must shop wisely because they would only be eating what they bought and no food would be spoiled or thrown away.

There are many solutions you can do in preventing food to go to waste. For instance, you can shop wisely when going food shopping. Shopping wisely can prevent food from being spoiled. When you shop wisely, you only buy the essential foods and amounts you actually need. The food would not spoil if you buy specific amounts because you're going to eat the amount of food you bought for the time you purchased it for. According to "Food Facts" the author states, "Much of household waste is due to overpurchasing of food, spoilage, and plate waste. About 2/3 of household waste is due to food spoilage from not being used in time, whereas the other 1/3 is caused by people cooking or serving too much." This quote illustrates that most of household waste is due to spoilage and plate waste. By purchasing the necessary food and amounts, you can prevent household waste because you would only be eating the foods and amount you bought. Also, you would only be cooking specific quantities from the amounts you bought, leading to less or no leftovers being discarded. In addition to this, another way that you can prevent food spoilage from happening is by organizing food products in a proper maner. Food products should be maintained at proper temperature when being stored because all foods have specific temperatures they should be stored in and when not stored at these temperatures, the results are spoilage. Also, when storing food you should make sure that you use the older food products before you use the new ones. If you use the new food products rather than the old ones, then the old food products would get spoiled and produce food waste. As stated by "www.epa.com", "In order to reduce spoilage, food products should be stored in proper condition (e.g. temperature) and organized easily track inventory levels and ensure that older products are used first." This quote illustrates that when buying food products, they should be stored at proper temperature and used from oldest to newest. If you shop wisely, then your old and new food products won't result in spoilage. However, if you buy a lot of the same food products and you store them, then there's a likely chance they would become spoiled because they would become forgotten, leading to spoilage. If you shop wisely and buy only the certain amount of foods you need, no spoilage would happen...
