Fucking Cant Think Of One Essay

At some point in an individual's life, he has to make the conscious decision as to whether he is going to attend post secondary. His choice may be swayed by the fact that the cost of undergraduate tuition in Canada has jumped from an average of $4,942 in 2009 to an estimated, astonishing $5,777 in 2014 . (Statistics Canada, Centre for Education Statistics. 2012.). So, what convinces a “fresh-out-of-high school”, young adult to attend post secondary? Previous common knowledge states that with an education one can earn more money within Canada's work force. Lately, however that no longer seems to ring true. The rising costs of tuition has caused devaluation of education. How? It seems that if people have the ability to pay for school, they are able to achieve the bare minimum of a passing grade in order to gain the degree they desire. Much like the United States, Canada's students are finding it difficult to find employment after graduating which is causing students to opt out of going to school as well as the competition in the workforce creating a mentality that “knowledge is cheap;” when there is more people with the same degree, the degree no longer has any value and people are now expected to return to post secondary to upgrade.

A very common cliche is now considered to applicable to present day, it's very common to have heard “It pays to get A's, but C's get degrees.” The New York Times (The Associated Press. 2005.) published an article about President George W. Bush and Senator John Kerry regarding their grades during their time at Yale. The article states that both Senator Kerry and President Bush had maintained a C average throughout their education. This proves that an individual can gain a degree and have a high paying job, even become president, by working to get the bare minimum in school. It also illustrates that if the necessary funding is available, one can literally “buy his degree.” There are may instances when a student can not afford to attend school. Unlike his fellow classmates, he often struggles to “make ends meet” as the rising cost of education has eaten all of his savings because of this, the student toils away at his education to maintain high grade because he cannot financially afford to retake a year of school; he will likely opt out of going to school because of the financial insecurity. The cost of tuition coupled with the ability to gain a degree devalues education because anyone, as long as the individual has the finances, can easily acquire a degree with the minimum passing grade.

An individual who is unable to afford schooling often opt out because it is easier for him to find a job elsewhere that requires no formal education but pays quite well. An example of an occupation requiring very little education, that can be provided on the job, is a custodian. The average wage of a custodian is $16.57 an hour. (ALIS. 2011.) However, like many other jobs, as time progresses an individual can easily have an...
