Delegating is a very common process that managers or directors use to distribute work among the individuals in the department setting. It is an important step to getting various tasks accomplished and keeping team members involved on the happenings of the company. This paper will discuss the benefits of delegating within each of the four functions of management, how delegation should be used to achieve those benefits and how delegation could be used more effectively in planning, organizing, leading or controlling with my organization.As we begin our journey to finding out the benefits of delegating, it is important to note the definitions of the four functions of management. They are:•Planning – setting of goals and deciding on a course of action•Organizing – establishing the structure, rules, and guidelines for the company•Leading – Influencing people to get the job done by setting the direction and the tone for the culture or lifestyle•Controlling – Bringing success to the bottom line by setting standards, measuring results, and taking corrective action. (Bateman & Snell, 2004)My company is called Trinity College of Nursing and Health Sciences. It has been in existence for over 100 years through multiple entities, including six predecessor programs. We are a part of Trinity Regional Health System, which is a member of Iowa Health System. It is a community based organization of physicians, hospitals, and clinics that supports the provision of health care and health sciences education. (Trinityqc.com). Joanne Cunningham, MSEd, is the director of Student Services at Trinity College of Nursing and Health Sciences in Rock Island, Illinois and I had a chance to sit down and talk with her about how she delegates various tasks in our department.Our department, which consists of seven (7) individuals, holds several huge events each year.
