Gays on College Campuses and the Problems They Face
Gays in today’s society face many problems not only with the Media’s eyes, but also on college campuses. Young adults who self-identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual experience major stresses in managing their sexual orientation.
They are at risk for many types of mental &, health problems along with suicide and depression. The gay and lesbian youth and young adults who are more open about their sexuality than others are exposed to frequent derogatory comments about them. This is not only in the media by always harping about them on TV but, also on campuses by other college students.

The research on violence among college students has historically neglected the Experiences of members of underrepresented groups such as racial and ethnic Students, and gay, lesbian, bisexual, and other (GLBO) students. The results of this study provided data on these relatively unexamined populations and suggest that these students are often victimized at higher rates than those in majority populations.
This is in contrast to studies that found an increased risk of forced sex and sexual abuse at least once in a lifetime (Joseph et al., 1995; Knutson & Sullivan, 1993; Sullivan et al., 1991 pg. 3218). Psychological abuse and physical abuse by a partner were found in students who were gay, lesbian, bisexual, or other sexual orientation, they were more than four times as likely to
report rape but the indicator for GLBO did not achieve statistical significance for attempted rape. Gay, lesbian, and bisexual students were more than five times as likely to experience sexual abuse, more than twice as likely to report psychological abuse, and three times as likely to have suffered physical abuse by a partner as heterosexual students.
I did find some college and universities that do support gays and lesbians without any violence and media scrutiny about them attending because they back the gay and lesbian rights. They(Newsweek) named the top college campuses on the list and here’s what they say they are and along with the names of them and some info on why they say they are one of the top schools to attend if they are bisexual, gay or lesbian because these schools are more accepting of them.
