It’s commonly known for boys to be better than girls. For years it’s always been a war against who’s better? Growing up its always been girls and boys could only participate and play with certain things. It was normally like girls would only be able to play with all the girly things while boys have play with all the boy things.
Then, you have the perception where females have to only take part in the feminine activities. It was strong stereotypes were girls was only allowed to be cheerleaders, dancers, writers and poets. While on another hand boys are the basketball, football and soccer players. The same way goes for the academics where better at reading and writing while the boys are better at numbers and chemicals. Majority of these stereotypes are not even legit especially when it comes to the academics.
For example college wasn’t the most relevant thing for a female to take interest in at one point in life. It was like college for females wasn’t the most realistic thing. Mainly you would hear a male going off to college instead. Rather than a female attending college, females didn’t started attending college until the late 1800s early 1900s. By then you started hearing more females attending campus. Or even thinking about going to a university. As the ratio started to increases with females the classroom setting started to change as well as the campus.
Colleges started to have more female class options for the girls. The campuses had slight female effect to it. As the female growth rate increased the male growth rate started to decrease. It started to be more drop outs or no attends at all.
Now it was a perception that the boys thought by the girls coming into a place where there could be in dominance is changing their whole perspective on what there trying to pursue in life. But as Katha Pollitt states “schools, she notes, have always been bout sitting still and meeting deadlines, and about reading and writing----so why have such actives suddenly become disadvantages to boys?”
