Geothermal Energy Essay

Geothermal energy is the heat from the Earth’s. The geothermal energy is very sustainable and the resources of the energy can range from the shallow ground (Geothermal Energy, 2010). The hot water and hot rocks are found underneath the Earth’s surface deep down with very high temperatures and it is called magma. The ground water is 10 feet of the Earth’s surface (Geothermal Energy, 2010). The temperature is very constant between 55 and 60. The geothermal heat pumps into the cool buildings and pumps the heat system. The heat pumps consist of air delivery such as duct work which is heat exchanger. The heat exchanger removes heat from the ductwork. The heat pumps air into the air delivery system. During the winter the pump removes air from the indoor (Breaking ground, 1998). In the summer time the heat pumps removes heat from the inside of the heat exchanger (Blankinship, 2008). During the summer, heat is removed from the indoor air. The summer is used to provide a free source of hot water .The United States uses the geothermal energy from the reservoirs. The reservoir has hot water and it comes from western states. Many wells are drilled underneath the ground reservoir for the electricity (Geothermal Energy, 2010). The geothermal power plants use steam from the reservoirs to turbine. The use of hot water is to boil the working fluids that vaporize and burn the turbine out (Laughlin, 1996). The hot water that is near the Earth’s surface is use just for the heat. The direct use of these applications is used for heating the buildings, growing plants in the greenhouse, drying crops and heating water at many fish farms (Geothermal Energy, 2010).The hot dry rock occurs at a speed of 3 to 5 miles underneath the Earth’s surface. The power plants use steam to circulate electricity (Phair, 1994). The steam rotates a turbine that activates generators which will produce electricity (Phair, 1994). Most power plants still need fossil fuels to boil the water from the steam. The geothermal plants use steam that can provide from using the hot water. There are many types of geothermal plants such as dry steam, flash steam and the binary cycle. The dry steam plant accumulates the underground resources of the steam. The steam blows directly from the underground wells to the plants (Blankinship, 2008). The flash steam is the most common of the power plants. The flash steam uses the geothermal energy for the reservoir of hot water. The steam allows the flow of the wells in the ground (Geothermal Energy, 2010). The pressure decreases and the water boil into the steam from the power plant. The binary cycle the power plants to help the water at a low temperature of 225(Laughlin 1996.)The water accommodates the use of heat from the hot rock water to boil a working fluid (Breaking ground, 1998).
