Global Climate Change is not something to be ignored. According to research, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’s 5th assessment last September 2013 reported that "The conclusions fundamentally are, the planet is warming," according to Graeme Stephens, Director of the Center for Climate Sciences at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. IPCC said that global warming is "unequivocal" and "Human influence on the climate system is clear." The reports showed that scientist are 95% sure that climate change is true and that it is caused by human activities.
The IPCC 5th assessment reported that the results of their studies showed that:
The report explained how human activities caused the warming even if we start taking action, there is still damage done. If we don’t take action regarding this it will just get worsen. This is something that scientist want to avoid. According to the class discussion, the problem is that small changes in global average temperature can lead to really large changes in the environment. It is also stated in the report that “it is virtually certain that there will be more frequent hot and fewer cold temperature extremes over most land areas on daily and seasonal timescales as global mean temperatures increase," this means that the frequency of the heat waves will increase. From the data through observation and analysis, there is 90%-100% sure that the warming of the oceans, the rise of sea levels, lost artic sea ice is caused by human activities.
In the field of Science, there is nothing 100 percent true. Uncertainty will always be present. There will always be uncertainties no mater what even if it is just one percent; it is still an uncertainty. There is always a possibility of mistake. Being unsure of something in science is normal and makes it more real and accurate because declaring that there’s uncertainty, you acknowledge that there might be other factors that can affect it. Saying your 100 percent sure makes it more false.
What does 95 % certainty mean?
