Go Green And Go Home Essay

1872 words - 7 pages

Green homes can be powered with numerous resources that the Earth has an abundance of. The different types of resources for green homes are plentiful, with traditional homes; resources are scarce and limited. With new and improved eco friendly homes that are sustained by using renewable resources, the demand for resources that power these homes is an important aspect that designers and homeowners need, the different kinds of resources are limited but they all are recyclable and will continue to be in an abundance. The most popular way many people obtain the energy needed in a green home is through solar energy. This is natural sunlight that is captured and transformed to power the electricity in homes by installing solar power panels. Resources that are needed to power an eco friendly home are important and the need for inexpensive and easy access ones is vital. The sun is the most common and most admired resource to use due to its variety of usage. The sun has a variety of possibilities that it could be used to transfer into electricity and even for hot water procedures. Another reason why it is the most common is because it is the easiest to install and obtain, and also, saves humans the most amount of money. Another way to obtain energy that is gaining in popularity is through wind power. An article written by an anonymous writer states "The most efficient of green energy sources is wind. Wind is the safest and cleanest of the green energy sources as it produces no pollutants and does not contribute to global warming. Wind energy is harnessed by erecting a turbine that spins in the breeze generating electricity" ("Green Energy Sources"). The need for different resources for different areas that are low-priced and easy to get to run an eco friendly home is in demand. There is a huge demand for solar energy, but wind energy is just as efficient. Wind is useful; it is the cleanest resource and offers unlimited availability. For those who live in a cloudy area or an area where it gets dark early, wind energy is another fantastic resource to generate homes or businesses. In an article in the National Geographic online magazine written by Tom Gresham reads, "Neither hydropower nor solar power creates significant pollution or waste. Hydropower is much more widely used, accounting for about 6 percent of the energy supply in the United States in 2008" ("Hydropower vs. Solar"). Inside eco friendly homes there are many components that qualify the homes to be considered eco friendly. Running off of sustainable and renewable resources qualify the home to be green. Hydropower is water based and uses a dam system and a turbine to help generate energy throughout the homes. These energy efficient ways of running homes is a great start to going green. Water is another high-quality consistent resource to have; however the only issue with water for a generator of electricity is if the home isn’t in close proximity with a stream, lake or ocean. In cities this...
