Group Behavior: The Tuchman’s Model Essay

With the majority of our group being guardians or abiders of the rules presented to us for this project, we were able to do what we were supposed to do with obedience to the instructions and respect for one another. On the other hand, someone such as me would rather try to think outside of the box, bend rules, and find the quicker solution before the desired solution. This can be time consuming and even possibly detrimental to the progress and effectiveness of a team, but on the flipside, as an artisan, I am able be resourceful and look for helpful shortcuts or think of ideas that can help the team find a solution out of a obstructive, time delaying barrier. By this I mean that we had the right mindset for avoiding conflicts and promoting productivity and the result was a strong atmosphere for team work on the project, where we did everything we wanted to do not only on time all but once, but also accomplished these tasks efficiently.
The one instance where we were not able to accomplish what we wanted to when we wanted to was a Friday meeting that we planned to film some of the project. Brian was unable to attend last minute, and I no longer was able to bring my friends camera due to an unforeseen incident of my friend having to use his camera. We therefor decided to not have the meeting on Friday, and rescheduled for Sunday. In the end we completed the filming exactly how we wanted to, albeit two days later. This might seem like nothing, but this could have easily become a much bigger problem. Allison and Karson could have become angry with Brian and me for not doing what we were supposed to do, or could have even excluded us from the group. Fortunately, they were accepting of what happened, and since this was the first and only instance, allowed it to take place with no negative ramifications, keeping the harmony of the team intact. To analyze our handling of negative issues as a group and as individuals, and to discover how we avoided any conflicts (for the most part), I looked at the results from the conflict handling style test we took.
Conflict handling is an important aspect of a team, significant for maintaining team unity and eliminating problems as quickly as possible.
