Yucca Schidigera commonly known as Adam’s Needle Yucca is a plant, member of the agavaceae family. Also known as Mojave yucca, Spanish bayonet, and Spanish dagger due to its “sharp dagger-like leaves” (Montgomery, 2010). North America and Central America are place of origin to Yucca Schidigera (van Wyk & Wink, 2004), currently one can find Yucca plant in California, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. In order for the plant to grow healthy it must be on a rocky desert slope; full of sun and soil that provides good drainage (Montgomery, 2010).

The arthritis research community has not recognized Bingham’s work, since it was published in an obscure journal (Cheeke, Piacente, & Oleszek, 2006). I found that the effectiveness of Yucca supplements for the use of arthritis treatment has not been proven, and more research is needed.
I was not able to find enough of the safety of taking Yucca schidigera in the form of extract or powder tablets. On the other hand I did find a website that stated that Yucca powder and extract form Yucca schidigera has the “US Food and Drug Administration’s GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status. The web page also stated that ornamental use of the plant has been related with allergic rhinitis (Drug.com, 2014).Due to the web page’s domain name extension being .com the information could be from a non-creditable source.
