Gun Control Is Not The Answer

882 words - 4 pages

Without a doubt there is a lot of violence in the news today, from school shootings to someone getting murdered almost every day. It's odd though when I hear of these crimes the guns aren't going to jail. It's the people that do the crime that pay the time. Guns and weapons should be available for civilian use. Recent shootings have put gun ownership in question. The most recent massacre was the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting where 20 year old Adam Lanza killed several children and teachers. It's not the gun... it's the person pulling the trigger. Guns are inanimate objects and cannot kill people on their own. Getting rid of guns will only going to leave civilians defenseless at a time of danger. It isn’t like the criminals will just listen to someone telling them they can’t have something or do something. My point is this has never stopped them before and it almost certainly won’t stop them now. If you take the guns away from the good people that will lead to more gangs because they can kill anyone without having to think about getting shot too. The second Amendment to the Constitution protects the individual's right to be able to own a gun. Banning guns will take away yet another piece of our liberty, which is one more step to communism. Another problem that comes with gun control laws are weaker individuals may have no means of self-defense from rape or other crimes, especially in the inner city. Along with what I was talking about earlier, criminals and outlaws are not even going to think about listening to the laws. They never have and they never will, as a black market for guns will surely develop. In the United Kingdom the gun control act has reduced homicides, but the rate of murders has gone up! I hear all of this talk about guns killing people next we are going to hear about the spoons and forks making people fat. The spoon isn't putting that chocolate cake in your mouth by itself no more than the gun is pulling its own trigger....
