Hacking As A Secure Satisfying Career.

767 words - 3 pages

For years the question has arisen, 'Is hacking legal?' Now there is ananswer found within many corporations throughout the world, and it isdefinitely, yes. Hackers used to be just people that cause havoc on anotherperson's computer or a network of computers to gain access to secretinformation or private agreements and the like. Today hackers are beinghired by major companies to test their software and hardware for 'holes'(glitches) in the setup to determine how easily other hackers could penetrate.History has shown us that hackers will find a way into your network ifit is accessible from a telephone/modem connection or if it has cellularphone lines within the company. Reformed hackers are able to use the sametechniques as they could before, but earn a decent living doing so, andlegally. To many experts it seems that hacker-converts may very well be upto no good. While they are in a system, they might rearrange things, leavinga back door for later use. But more companies feel that a hacker could helptheir security problems by showing them the faults in the system andsuggesting how to patch these holes. The general public however, does not accept major companies usinghackers as system testers. This was a big problem forthe company but surprisingly more hackers were hired with other companiesas security consultants with confidential agreements or contracts. This rapiduprising in professional legal hackers also brought about an uprising toillegal hacking. A company that is willing to hire a hacker could be taking arisk in doing so, but could also get an excellent idea of how securesomeone's data might be from other hackers. 'Law enforcement agents allagree that hackers' obsession with sharing information via bulletin boardsmakes them better able to stay abreast of the latest tricks of the trade'(Forbes 33). With hackers being able to share and trade information soeasily, it is elementary to understand why they could find a job in today'sworld where protecting data is a very difficult thing. Moreover, does thehackers' ability to share information putting companies at a disadvantage?Experts in data security are saying so. They believe that a hackercouldn't just quit hacking--there is too much fun in it for them, and it...
