In the name of honor, Hamlet procrastinates his father's death; attempts to protect the women in his life; and duels Laertes for the sake of nobility. However by deciding to postpone the deed of killing the King, Hamlet later suffers the consequences of death. Because Hamlet took so much time to kill the King, it gave the King a chance to prepare and plot against him. In the end the King gives a poison sword to Laertes, who ultimately stabs and kills Hamlet. Hamlet tried to be honorable by accepting the responsibility of avenging his fathers death, but he fails by way of procrastination.Hamlet is very protective, however this causes many problems. Hamlet is extremely protective of the women in his life, both his mother and Ophelia. When Hamlet accidently killed Ophelia's father Polonius, he never meant to hurt her, in fact he loved her deeply and remained loyal to her. When Ophelia died Hamlet proclaimed his love, "I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers: Could not, with all their quantity of love, Make up my sum," [IV, i: L. 264] This proves Hamlet truly cared for Ophelia. Hamlet had isolated himself from her, not because he didn't love her but because he did love her. Hamlet first alienated himself from her, by saying such things as; "Get thee to a nunnery: why wouldst thou be a breeder of sinners" [III, i: L.121], despite his act of anger towards Ophelia, he remained in love with her. That is why he had to distance himself from her; That youth and observation copied there; And thy commandment all alone shall live Within the book and volume of my brain, Unmix'd with baser mater: yes, by heaven.[I, iv: L. 1o2] By this Hamlet means he will focus only on the task of killing Claudius, he doesn't want to get anybody involved in his plans to kill the King. By doing so, he must push himself away from the Cummings 3 people he loves, such that he isolates himself from Ophelia. This proves Hamlet is noble, but by doing so he gives Ophelia the wrong impression. Ophelia thinks Hamlet no longer loves her, since he insults and ignores her. Hamlet manages to get Ophelia involved in the deed by accident, when he killed her father, and denied her love. This caused Ophelia to kill herself. Hamlet tried to be noble by protecting Ophelia, but he failed when she died. Hamlet also attempts to protect his mother, and fails once again. Hamlet tried to shelter his mother from the chaos surrounding them. Hamlet is terribly concerned with his mother's well being, he forwards her of Claudius' bad character. "A murderer and a villain; A slave that is not twentieth part the tither: A cutpurse of the empire and the rule, That from a shelf the precious diadem stole/ And put it in his pocket".(III, iv: L.99) Hamlet explains to his mother, that Claudius is a villain who wrongfully obtained his position by murdering the King. Hamlet also warns his mother not to sleep in the same bed as Claudius; " throw away the worser part of it, And live the pured with the other half. Good night: But go not to my uncle's bed. Assume a virtue, if you have not/ That monsters, custom, who all sense doth eat: oft habit's devil, is angel yet in...
