The Harry Potter series written by J.K. Rowling has recently sprung to life in many ways. The first book of the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, was published in 1998 in the US (Rowling) and has continuously grown from there. First day sales of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows sold 11 million copies worldwide which definitely reflects the fan base of Harry Potter (Gunelius, 76). The fans of this series, also know as the Harry Potter fandom, have taken the series into their own hands using creativity to bring pieces of the series to life. This becomes an entire subculture that fans have created from the Harry Potter series, but who are those people and what do they do? Some of the fans bring parts of the story to life through cosplay, while others engage in the human (or "muggle") version of the game of Quidditch, and some fans even create Harry Potter subplots of their own through the writing of fan fiction.

Whether it comes from the movies, or the books, the fans go to the extreme when it comes to Harry Potter. To summarize the three different fan interpretations, we see that for each one, they showed a way to bring the world of Harry Potter into the real world.

Cosplay brings the actual characters with full on costumes. With all the work, or money that fans put into the costumes, this shows that the fans want more of the Harry Potter series.
