There are many things that communication needs when trying to communicate to users from respecting ones personal space, the location of the setting and the distance between speakers, in this section I will be giving other different situations that may affect the circle of communication. Personal space is a big issue when talking to users because this can cause conflict between people. For example many people feel uncomfortable if someone takes over their personal space some may take it in different ways by taking it as a threat so the user may feel like they need to react to the sign where this would lead in to a big misunderstanding between the users. This is the reason why when talking to a user the distance between the users should be an arm length so the users don’t feel threatened or uncomfortable that they will react in an unpleasant way. I was at the memory café when doing work experience, I was with an elderly who could hear me her name was Mary so instead of leaning in close and making her feel uncomfortable I had spoken louder and making sure Mary wasn’t feeling uncomfortable when I was speaking to her by keeping my distance .
The way this links into the care value base is communication, respect and safety towards the service user because if the service user felt uncomfortable because the service provider was in their personal space this would make the service user to answer the question s or the conversation quick because they want to get out of the position that they are in. this would affect the communication because the service user would not feel like they want to get out of the situation and cut the conversation without receiving the right information they were looking for.
This links into safety because in many case people invade other person space if they are there to cause trouble so this would make the service user feel for their lives if the service provider is to close to them and make them feel uncomfortable and again this would cut the conversation and not allow the service user to get the right information they have come to receive from the service provider. This shows that the service provider would need to respect the user’s personal space and understand if they invade the user’s personal space this would make the user feel uncomfortable and create a poor way of communication because the service user would only want to get out of the situation they are in.
The setting of where the users are should not be in an area where the lighting is bad because this would also affect the communication cycle because the users may not feel like comfortable because they are not able to see the users face and may feel uncomfortable when speaking to the users. The sound of the area can also affect the communication cycle because if there was a meeting going on and there was building works going on right out side the building, this would be a distraction for users because they wouldn’t be able to concentrate on the...
