Have you heard about the news reporting that parents go along with their undergraduate children to the Hong Kong University at the first day of the school?
Yes, I can see some of you are jaw-dropping. How come these kind of comical phenomena exist in the university, a place for tertiary education? Even though it is unreasonable, unbelievable and unimaginable, I do have more related examples. Few months ago, the news concerned a secondary school student, who joined the camp of school, was being found that he was not able to take care of himself, not able to tied his shoes and even not able to peel an orange. Apart from them, the list of those related news goes on and on. The question comes, they, the undergraduate and the secondary school student, are well-educated, both of them are well-equipped with different knowledge. Not only do they master the knowledge in books well, but they also come with several talents. Some are bilingual if not trilingual, some are talented artists and some may even an 8th grade pianist. But they failed to acquire the basic skills of self-care. How stole it from them?
It is parents. It is parents, who force their teens to get grade A in academic but never teach them how to take care of themselves; It is parents, who enroll their children in different extra-curricular activities but never ask what they really interest in; And it is parents, who help kids with everything but never tell them how to face it alone.
