This organized crime group is a motorcycle club that has thousands of members and operates across the United States (US) and Europe. The group operates out of legit storefronts and garages. The first Hell's Angels motorcycle club was found on March 17, 1948 (Hells Angels, 2008). The name "Hells Angels" was believed to have been inspired by the common historical use in both World War I and II, to name squadrons or other fighting groups by fierce, death-defying names such as Hells Angels or Flying Tigers. Hells Angels was a name long favored by mercenaries and soldiers, warriors and troops who risked all for principle, belief, freedom and individual rights, which included the right to ride big Harley-Davidson hogs. The hazy exhaust of half a century of Harleys obscures the history of today's Hells Angels and no one can see through quite to the beginning. The first chapters were formed independently of one another, with the members usually being unaware that there were other Hells Angels clubs. The Pissed off Bastards of Bloomington referred to as the POBOB MC and are one of the first motorcycle clubs in existence. The POBOB MC was established in 1947, and they are still together today but are now referred to as the Pissed off Bastards of Berdoo, MC. The First Hells Angels chapter emerged in 1948 when the POBOB's took on the name Hells Angels in San Bernardino, California. The POBOB'S played an integral role in the Hollister incident, on which the movie "The Wild One" was based, staring Marlon Brando (Ottawa Route81, 2008).The Hells Angels are seen as the motorcycle counterculture of the 1960s. The Hells Angels have been purported to make a great deal of money from illegal activities such as prostitution and drug trafficking. However, the group claims that only a few members and not the motorcycle club as a whole participate these kinds of illegal activities. According to law enforcement agencies located in the south and southwestern parts of the US it has been reported that the Hells Angels produce and distribute a drug such as methamphetamine. The Hells Angels Motorcycle Club (HAMC) still professes to be just a motorcycle club. The HAMC is one of the original one-percenter motorcycle clubs, a euphemism for clubs that are considered outlaw bikers by most citizens. The phrase was adopted by the HAMC after the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) claimed that 99% of motorcycle riders were law-abiding citizens, while the remaining one percent misrepresented the family oriented motorcycle culture that the AMA was attempting to perpetuate. The Oakland California Hells Angels chapter was somewhat well known because the group was written about in Ralph 'Sonny' Barger's autobiography. Sonny wrote his autobiography, which he entitled Hell's Angels: The Life and Times of Sonny Barger and he also wrote another book entitled The Hells Angels Motorcycle Club. Both of these books were on the national bestseller's list. Sonny served in the military, was in prison for over a decade, wrote about motorcycle related fiction, and finally made a career out of making and selling his own brand of beer. The HAMC organizes motorcycle runs all over the world...
