High school students are affected by the significant problem of reading learning disabilities; therefore, in order to effectively address this issue, the nature and level of the students’ needs must be evaluated. Upon researching the wide range of strategies and interventions used in education to help such students, it is apparent that the educator who applies the strategy is more important than the choice of which strategy is chosen.

Students with a reading learning disability in high school experience a wide range of difficulties and challenges to a successful education. Based on the research provided by Bahr and Bramlett, private or school psychologists and intervention assistance programs receive the most referrals due to reading difficulties (Rathnov 175). Reading proficiency is crucial to survive in today’s global society. These requirements are needed in order to gain employment and be able to survive without stress. People who struggle with reading proficiency are often frustrated, because they are underemployed and vulnerable (Horowitz 1). Students who wish to be successful in life, especially those students who wish to go on to college, must be given the tools to conquer a reading disability before they leave high school.
Educational services must provide the kind of strategies and interventions that assist and impact students with a reading learning disability. The main goal of education for a student with a reading disability should first be to identify and establish the needs of a student. Psychologists play a significant part in dealing with a high school student’s reading learning disability. According to Learning Disorders, “[A school psychologist] gathers comprehensive background information about the child and the family and administers [a variety] of tests” (Learning Disorders 2).
