The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
The assassination of President Abraham Lincoln occurred on April 15, 1865, Washington, D.C. Lincoln was watching the play “Our American Cousin” at Ford’s Theatre located in Washington D.C. John Wilkes Booth entered the theatre during the play and shot and killed President Lincoln. This tragic event changed history. President Lincoln was the President of the United States during the time of slavery. He was also the president during the Civil War. Lincoln wanted to put a stop to the slavery. Before Lincoln was assassinated, the slavery was put to a stop. If it wasn’t for Lincoln our world and history would have been tremendously different.
The Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was like a “break up” letter to the British from the Americans. It was signed on July 4, 1776. The Declaration of Independence was a letter that said that ...view middle of the document...
This took place just after the American’s got their freedom from the British. Some people might people say that the American’s were hypocrites’, because they had just fought a long war to get their freedom from the British, and now they are taking away the African American’s freedom. The Civil War was not a happy time in American history. The slaves were treated like cattle. This was a very important event. It shows us how rotten people can be, and to never judge someone or treat someone with disrespect.
The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase happened in 1803. The United States purchased this land from the French. Buying this land would allow us to expand further westward. The United States gained 15 new states and 2 parts of Canada. This included Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Texas, New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado, and Louisiana. The two parts of Canada were Alberta and Saskatchewan. The French sold the land to the United States for three cents an acre, which added up to fifteen million dollars. Thomas Jefferson was our president at the time. He wanted to explore the control of the government. Jefferson did not want France and Spain to have control over the American trading. The main purpose of this purpose was so that we could take control of the marketplace and make more money through trading. Without the Louisiana Purchase the United States would not be as big as it is today.
On September, 11th the Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia, Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorists group attacked The Towers off the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. They high jacked four airplanes. Two of them crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, one crashed into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and the third one crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. Over three thousand people were killed in New York City and Washington D.C. After this had happened security sky rocketed with protection. Airports had more security. Any type of place that had many visitors had better protection and security. With this tragic event that happened the United States is a new place.
