History Of Pornography And Safe Sex

History of Pornography and Safe SexSince the dawn of time, man has engaged in unprotected sex, whether it was for fun or to breed. Long before the invention of the camera the Porn industry flourished, from strip clubs to brothels, there was always a demand for sex. But, with the coming of age of the camera, the industry was able to reach a wider audience, people wanted to watch sexual activity from the comfort of their own home. Times were different back then, any type of disease transferred by sex was as easy to cure as, taking a pill or rubbing a small amount of cream on you. But, in 1981 a new disease rocked America, AIDS/HIV was first reported in San Francisco. The Porn industry is a $4 billion to $13 billion a year business. With this kind of cash flow the average person would assume that the industry takes care of their actors/actresses. This is far from the truth, they work under poor conditions. Meal breaks, unsanitary conditions, and very long working hours are the lesser concerns. The main concerns of the actors are the deadly diseases they are put at risk with, the most deadly is Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, or as we know it AIDS. The best way to shield yourself from catching this deadly disease is not to engage in sexual activity, but come on this is the Porn industry we are talking about. The Condom when used correctly offers a buffer of around 92% against the disease."Only about 1 percent of heterosexual video companies mandate condoms, and several other allow performers a choice. Lets do a little math here, Some porn stars have made nearly 2,000 films each year with an average of three different persons per film. If you multiply an average of only 100 films by 3 partners per film and then multiply by the 20,000 professional porn actors in America you get a total of 12 million sex acts." (1)Some performers only have sex with each other, but plenty of them have outside partners, sometimes several. Some share needles. And the current outbreak may have started in Brazil, where a performer worked with someone not subject to the stringent testing required in Los Angeles. The new scare began last week when it was announced that a performer had tested positive for HIV, which he apparently contracted while shooting a film last month in Brazil. A 22-year old Canadian actress he worked with after returning to the United States also had tested positive for HIV. The woman has only worked in the industry for three months. Many associated with the adult film industry said unprotected sex is common in shoots despite the HIV scare."Wherever Patient Zero's infection came from, the clinic for the porn industry (called AIM Healthcare Foundation) has tested first and second generation partners of people who worked with him. At least five infections have been found." (2)"Porn films shut down for 60 days while intensive testing goes on and partner contacts are traced. The industry hopes the outbreak will be contained and the panic blow over. As...
