In the year 1775 a war called the American Revolutionary war had started between the British and the American people living in the colonies like Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The colonies were separated into different areas and were all individually named and some of them were also bigger than the other. The people (Americans) living in these colonies were becoming annoyed by the British because they were taking all of the money they owned and the people living in these colonies did not want to lose their money. Overall the American colonist could not have avoided the war and agreed on terms with the British Government because the British People did not want to give up the control they had over the colonies.
The British government did a lot of things to anger the colonies at this point in time. An example of this is the Stamp act. The stamp act was an act passed that stated there was a new tax on any and every official document. This included paper, documents, letters stamps and many more things. This meant that anything written they had to pay extra money for even if they wanted to send a letter to a loved one and family member in another colony. The people living in the colonies did not want to pay this money because it was unnecessary in the first place. And secondly because on top of this they were also being forced to pay a lot of other taxes and unnecessary money. The British government passed the act in order to get money so they could pay back the large amount of money they used in the French-Indian War. The debt came to around 143 million dollars. Because this was only the beginning of the many acts passed; the colonist were still forced to pay the tax, but they were not happy doing this. They still attempted to get the act reversed by pleading their case to the British government.
The Boston Massacre was another thing the British did to anger the colonist. There was a riot in Massachusetts and the rioters began throwing stones and rotten fruit and vegetables at the soldiers. After warning the people to stop throwing the things at them the soldiers fired what they thought were warning shots in the crowd. This ended up killing five people. A few people died in the Boston massacre but not as many as it sounds. They did this so people would be mad at the British and want to fight and to ultimately raise the patriotic feeling leading up to the war. This is also first time real violence was shown in the colonies over the revolution. The colonist used this as a reason to go to war and also start violent riots and boycotts throughout the colonies. The main place where the violence took place was the colony of Massachusetts.
The colonies did many things trying to avoid the war. Some examples of this were that they were holding conventions between the colonies to discuss how they could convince the British to let them be free. Within these meetings some of the British Leaders were brought into Philadelphia (where the meetings...
