Whether you are living on your own or with your family, home is always a place to enjoy, entertain and relax – a place happier than any other. But, with one burglary or a major accident the dream can fast turn into a nightmare. However, with some educated caution we can prevent most of these untoward incidents.
Fire safety tips – Fire is the reason for the most major accidents to occur at home. Avoid any such incident by following these home fire safety tips.
Buy a fire extinguisher and place it safely away from any open flames but in an easily accessible area. Ensure that all the members in your household know where the fire extinguisher is placed. Prepare your home and family for such an unfortunate event in advance to minimize the damages and handle the situation without panic.
Never leave open flames like a stove top, heater, barbecue grill or candles unattended for extended periods of time.
Install a proper ventilation system in your kitchen.
Be extra careful while cooking or baking. Make sure you turn off the gas cylinder or pipeline connection when you are going out or to bed.
Ensure cigarette stubs are put out properly.
Keep matches and lighters away from open flames.
Extinguish all forms of fire before going to bed. This includes candles and incense sticks.
Electrical safety tips – It is easy to minimize the risks of electrical accidents if you follow some basic home electrical safety tips.
Remove or replace any appliances with frayed cords and broken or cracked plugs.
Turn off and unplug electrical appliances whenever they are not in use.
Make sure your appliances are placed with adequate space around them to prevent overheating.
Be extremely careful when using an electrical appliance near a source of water like a sink or bucket of water.
Be familiar with the location of your main switchboard and keep its access area free of obstructions.
