Factors Affecting Program Preference of Culinary Arts StudentsFor every incoming student, choosing the best program can be a difficult decision as well as thinking about their future career. Some students know precisely what program to seek after while others don't know which one will get them there. In fact, due to the large number of courses available to students, most of them find themselves switching majors. The importance of choosing a degree as well as courses available is a vital and crucial part for every student as it is the building block of future success. Students need to be knowledgeable about the path they will be taking to help them prepare for their career path. However, career choice has become a complex science with the advent of information technology, the emergence of post industrial revolution and job competition.Influencing career choice can either be intrinsic, extrinsic or both. Hewitt further states that most people are influenced by careers that their parents favour, others follow careers that their educational choices have opened for them, some choose to follow their passion regardless of how much or little it will make them while others choose the careers that give high income Hewitt (2010) .Hospitality Management is a career which is gaining more attention thought out the world that it has in the past. Before, hotel managers usually graduated college with some degree in the business. Now, there is entire degree programs designed to give students the opportunity to focus their studies on the interesting world of hotels. It is one of the in demands nowadays and especially they're a lot of job opportunities not only here in the Philippines but also in other country around the world.Hospitality Management in Lyceum of the Philippines University- Batangas have different programs offered and one of the most common program is Hospitality Management. The CITHM offers five programs: Associate in Culinary Arts and Kitchen Operation, Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality Management specialized in Culinary Arts and Kitchen Operation, Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality Management specialized in Cruise Line Operation major in Culinary Arts, Associate in HRA, BSITTM , AITTM, CLOHS, and BSHRA.Many students became interested in this course because a job that once had proved particularly captivating. One of the considerations for many students is that they like and are genuinely interested in people. Working with people is a crucial part of a manager's job in our industry. Many students have a natural interested in food and some are attracted by the glamour of the hospitality industry.The researcher decided to conduct a study to determine the main reasons to take up culinary program offered by the College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management (CITHM).
