For many, daring to dream provides a glimpse of a world not quite yet formed into a reality. This window to the ideal provides an escape from the mediocre as well as an opportunity to catch a glimpse of your true self, unlimited to Earth’s restraints. No wonder that, for many, dreaming is an essential component to survive and to thrive. By providing the youth of today a method of escapism, we are allowing them to live in a better world. Through experiencing this fantasy, it can inspire the motivation to make the world a reality.
It has been said that those who dream shall inherit the Earth. Yet the society that we currently live in often underestimates the power of dreamers, finding it easier to write them off as “lazy” while the majority of those children are quietly imagining a future that makes the impossible possible. Imagining these children as worthless is our society’s the biggest mistake. By allowing their minds to wander, we are essentially giving those children the freedom to wander around free. The mind is not limited by the laws of gravity. In your imagination, you can always fly. In a world where children are told what they cannot do more often than what they can do, by letting them create a fantasy you are allowing them to expand their mind and consider new possibilities that might have seemed impossible otherwise.
Not only does providing children with the chance to dream allow them to create their own future, they also are creating something that might inspire future generations. Sometimes the most life changing worlds can come from the least likely people. For instance, a World War I veteran who imagined a hobbit going on a grand adventure or a struggling animator who doodled a mouse. Both these people created their worlds from their own imaginations that later went on to inspire others, thus creating a cycle for success. So many people have been inspired to take up the creative torch based off some stories that might have never seen the light of day if their creators had not been allowed to dream.
