How Dreams Lead To Success Essay

778 words - 4 pages

How do dreams lead to success? I question this as I sit here in front of my laptop screen. But how does one measure success? To many people, they measure success on how rich or powerful they can possibly achieve to be. But, I believe success is a lot more than money or obtaining a certain level of a career. When will people start to measure success by happiness? A famous quote by the philosopher, Albert Schweitzer, “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” To many, this is what dreams are. Dreams are visions of where a person finds themselves to be the happiest. If happiness is the key to success, then dreams are building blocks into a world that only you can create.

Events in our life can often affect our dreams. Constant changes of viewpoints are thrown at us and can make us see the world a bit different each time. These events are what inspires us and changes our dreams. Substantial or miniature, our viewpoints are constantly being changed. For example, a young boy might witness a house burn down across the street. He walks down the sidewalk and watches in anticipation at the firefighters searching the house and saving whoever they can find. This can spark some interest in the boy. He may not inspire to be a firefighter, but this event inspires him to want to help people. Thus, a dream is created. This boy, after witnessing this atrocious event, inspires to help people. He sees himself at his prime, at his happiest moment, helping others. This is his dream. To make people’s lives a bit better. Now, that was an example of a substantial event that can inspire dreams, but it doesn’t always have to be that way. Smaller, more miniature events can inspire us as much as the big ones do. Another example, a teenager talks to her friend at lunch. Her friend talks about how he volunteered at his local nursing home, keeping the elderly company and doing activities with them. Her friend goes on to talk about how the elderly he visited really enjoyed his company and thanked him for visiting them. Just a simple act of hearing about how she could volunteer her time...
