A lot of people ask how to succeed in college. You hear the words “I can’t, it’s too hard, professors give too much homework”, I can go on forever but I’m not trying to figure out why students say doubtful comments. What I really am striving to answer is, how to succeed in college. Some people blow right through college because they were given the right fundamentals prior in High school. Well when I think about that I say “lucky you”. I’m one of those students that have only had a semester and a half of familiarity and I’m finally starting to understand how to succeed in college.
I CAN do it
First thing on my agenda to talk about is how the things you say can affect your confidence. For example, if you are telling yourself I cannot do something as in maybe homework assignment, odds are you are not going to give the assignment 100% of your capabilities. Have you ever heard of the law of attraction? It’s a belief that “like attracts like” just by thinking negative thoughts can attract negative things to happen. People that believe in it consist of Jim Carrey, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Oprah Winfrey, and even Will Smith.
Be Here Now
There is a technique called be here now I learned in my 090 English class that allows a person to know when they are not paying attention to their studies. Be here now is a great technique if you have a difficult time concentrating on the homework task that is in front of you. Be here now will actually teach you to notice when your attention moves in a different direction. Sometimes staying focused is like trying to tie a balloon to your wrist when it’s only desire is to drift into the sky. What I have learned about this process is that if you practice it daily you will actually find yourself doing the technique without knowing you are doing so. It will become a habit. The be here now tool can be a great asset to you becoming successful in your study habits.
Where a person studies makes a difference
