Pope Francis is the current leader of the Roman Catholic Church, who ‘epitomises a true ‘Servant Leader’ in his vocation, through his service, deep compassion and openness to people and their concerns. Servant leadership is serving people, attending to and listening to their needs and concerns without judgement, as well giving them guidance and courage that God is also there to protect them. A ‘Servant Leader’ is a person who unwillingly wants to serve others, one that doesn’t hold authority for their own benefit, but is, however, an equal to his/her people. Similarly, as a leader, Pope Francis creates a diverse environment by involving everyone, even those who are not Catholic and treat everyone with equality and unconditional love. His ‘desire to bring hope....and opportunity’ to those around him, conveys his ability to love, forgive and care for even the discriminated groups within the church, the divorced-remarried, the LGBT, and the poor and disfigured. Therefore, through Pope Francis’ love and compassion for those all around him, he displays a strong sense of servant leadership in his vocation.
