Now you may be wondering but how does it affect the baby and the mother? Stress affects the baby in many ways. First, the baby could be born as a pre-term baby. The reason why the baby could be born as a pre-term is because whatever the mother’s mood is it goes to baby too. The baby then has to deal with the high levels of stress on its own. This causes the baby to not have fully formed organs. According to Dr. Wadhwa pre-term babies are susceptible to a range of complications later, including chronic lung disease, development delays, learning disorders, and infant mortality (Feature, 2005). 3). Stress could affect the mothers by weakening immune system and causes viral and bacterial infections.
In my future career I am looking forward to helping pregnant mothers take care of their self and their baby. Also, as an obstetrician that I will be I will help these women give a healthy live to their baby. These women that feel like if they are not going to make it through should talk to their family doctor and let them know what they are feeling. Although, we have talked about all the serious situations that could happen with stress and pregnancy, everything that you do inside and outside your home could still cause you problems. If you could be strong enough to deal with stress during your pregnancy and move on, your body will respond and go back to balance. Stress sends chemicals and hormones through the mother’s body, those same substances can cross the placenta to the smaller body of the baby. The hormones can affect the babies developing brain and make it hardwired to readily accept that stress hormone. We have to keep in mind that babies are very tough and nature made them able to withstand a bit while they are in the womb. When the mother has time to relax at any time they should practice the techniques. Mothers do need to watch their health, but not worry. Remember that worrying is what causes stress to come in the mother’s life and the fetus.
