Running Head: HYDROGEN CARSHydrogen CarsI. IntroductionA. Attention Getter:(Source: http://blmclub.blogspot.com/)B. Term Topic Question and Preview:Should the United States Exchange their Cars with Hydrogen Cars?Considering this fact that technology has played an imperative role in the human race of cars. Several people argue its most important achievement was making cars more well-organized with gasoline as well as diesel. Now that the world's population is growing extremely fast, more and more people own cars. This leads to the air being heavily polluted, especially with carbon dioxide. Again it's time for technology to step up and provide us with a better, cleaner solution. The answer is a car powered by hydrogen.II. BodyA. ProblemOver the years, countries such as the US have become dependent on petroleum based fossil fuels. The exhaust from cars burning these energy sources has a negative impact on the environment. In fact, 83 percent of all the carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere in the US comes from automobiles. Earth's climate could be drastically changed if these emissions continue. Today, all major car companies are researching and developing ways to reduce these emissions, and they all seem to come to the conclusion of using hydrogen cars.B. SolutionHydrogen cars operate by using fuel cells, which hold the hydrogen in either a solid, liquid, or gaseous state. The electricity to run the car is produced by electrons being stripped from hydrogen fuel, located in a section of the fuel cell. Current made by the electrons runs an electric motor, which then turns the wheels. Next, the hydrogen protons combine with oxygen and other electrons to form water. This process powers the car and makes it run.C. VisualizationOne of the great things about hydrogen is that it is very abundant. Hydrogen is one of the atoms that make up water, and in a process called electrolysis, can be extracted by sending electricity through water. When using pure hydrogen as a fuel, the environment is in no way harmed. All that is emitted is water vapor, which can be collected an used for the fueling of hydrogen cats again. This brings up another good point. We will never run out of hydrogen one day. Because hydrogen cars' exhaust is just water vapor, we are actually recycling the hydrogen so it can be used again.III. ConclusionReviewI'll next talk about the negative affects of using hydrogen as an energy source. First, get hold of hydrogen can be costly, and until a less expensive method is planned, we won't see any of these cars on the streets. Secondly, getting the hydrogen debatably causes enough pollution as a normal car. There has to be a cleaner way urbanized to obtain the hydrogen wanted. Otherwise it wouldn't be economical. Lastly, hydrogen-powered cars would have to be fairly heavy, due to a large tank that must hold the hydrogen. More energy is needed to move a heavier car.As you can see, using hydrogen as a fuel just shows how great and...

Are hydrogen cars the answer? Essay

533 words - 2 pages Hydrogen's Dirty SecretAlthough hydrogen fuel-cell cars have their advantages to petrol-fueled internal-combustion automobiles, they still don't offer the performance nor the convenience that most consumers desire. As of now, automotive engineers still have a long way to go before they could compete with gas-operated automobiles. There are plenty of obstacles that scientists have to overcome in order to make the hydrogen fuel-cell car up to par

The Benefits of Hydrogen Cars Essay

688 words - 3 pages The Advantages of Hydrogen Cars As you know, gas prices are going up. Nobody likes paying more money for gas and yet nobody is willing to do anything about it. Now that we are at war with the Middle East (the main gasoline providers) the gas prices are going to keep going up. Some people (like foreign ambassadors) say that trade with the Middle East is good for there economy, but I for one don’t like being dependant on foreign oil. That is

Facing author’s question, Spowers still believe that his work is good and will bring benefit for the car industry in the future. As he said in the end of article “people are eventually going to understand

Hydrogen Vehicles and Their Delay in Production

982 words - 4 pages Our Air is Our Future! Hydrogen? The latest craze these days is hybrid cars. People are looking for alternatives to their gas-guzzlers and are opting for more fuel-efficient vehicles. With the rise of gasoline prices and the ever-increasing dependence on foreign oil, something has to be done, and quick! At last, we may have finally found a solution, the hydrogen car! Will it surpass the electric and battery cars we have today? In his first

Hyrdogen Energy

1566 words - 6 pages hydrogen atom can be burned and used to supply energy for such things as cars, lamps and lawnmowers. The problem is that producing hydrogen is difficult to do and expensive. Scientists are working on ways to make this process more cost effective. One method of removing hydrogen from water is a process called electrolysis. This sends an electric shock through water. This separates the oxygen particles from the hydrogen particles. Another method is when

History of Chemistry: Hydrogen as an Alternative Use of Energy

1004 words - 5 pages In this paper I am going to be talking, about how the element hydrogen when chemically broken down can produce enough power to run things like, cars, planes, helicopter, etc… which is chemistry in technology. Right now most everyone is very heavily dependent on the use of fossil fuels and the search for alternative fuel sources are starting to pick up. One of the leading sources of fuel being tested is the use of hydrogen as an alternative fuel

Alternative Fuel

2631 words - 11 pages , therefore hydrogen is renewable and unlimited. Reaction of hydrogen with oxygen generates a lot of energy and it does not have any negative output, only water. But, the respectable power hidden in water isknown for more than 200 hundred years and as long scientists are trying to find a way to extract this energy, rather how to split the water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.Hydrogen can be used to power cars, rail engines, airplanes, to

Hydrogen: Is it worth it?

1002 words - 5 pages Hydrogen, number one on the Periodic Table of elements, and the most common element on our planet Earth. It may come as a surprise to many, or maybe not at all, that hydrogen could be used as a form of fuel for things such as trucks and cars. It is no new news that Hydrogen can be used as a fuel, since it has been on rockets as they are pushed out of orbit. Now all we have to do is figure out a way to be able to use it in our everyday lives

Storing the Impossible: Hydrogen

1147 words - 5 pages and maintained (Baker, 2005, p.82). Because pressurized hydrogen gas needs much more space than gasoline, it must be stored in tanks with very bulky walls (Baker, 2005, p.82). Even when stored in these tanks, the tanks cannot hold hydrogen for commercial purposes because they can only work in areas that have temperatures much lower than regular room temperature (Baker, 2005, p.82). “Because of this, hydrogen storage tanks in cars are costly and

Research paper on alternative fuels

885 words - 4 pages For a long time gasoline has dominated our world. It has been only now in the late 20th century to now that new fuels have surfaced to challenge the might of gasoline. One type of alternative energy that can be used instead of gasoline is hydrogen fuel cells. Ever since 2003 when President Bush announced the Hydrogen Fuel Initiative car companies have been trying to develop Hydrogen fuel cell cars that are cost effective and practical. Alone the
