I Really Needed That Ticket Essay

1121 words - 5 pages

I was just driving along, minding my own business, when the annoying sound of sirens cut through my favorite song on the radio. I tried to drown it out by turning the music up louder to no avail. The sirens were just getting louder and louder. This officer would not give up! What is wrong with this guy? After some serious thought, I decided perhaps I should pull over and see why he was so intent on annoying me. As soon as I rolled my window down, he was standing there acting all impatient. “Do you know why I pulled you over?” That is what he said to me. Not even a, “Hello” or a “Hi, how are you doing”. How utterly rude! Nevertheless, I handed him my license and registration that he insisted ...view middle of the document...

It is a good thing that I am a female too, since statistics say that young males are the most likely to be involved in speeding related crashes (Speeding). Moreover, I was on the highway and since NHTSA's 2006 fatality data shows that 47 percent of speed-related fatalities occurred on roads posted at 50 mph or less, and more than 20 percent occurred on roads posted at 35 mph or less, I was being extremely safe (Speeding).
The ticket also said that I was distracted when I was driving. That is absolutely ludicrous! I was completely focused on my conversation with the school counselor! She was telling me how my son could not come to school dressed as a clown any more now that he was in high school. She said the honking nose and squirting flower were distracting to the other students. Ha! How ironic then that I should get a ticket saying that I was distracted while I was driving! At the same time I was also texting my husband about his foot fungus cream fetish, lighting a cigarette, and of course, finding my favorite song on the radio. I was not distracted. I was multitasking and I am the Queen of multitasking! I told the officer that and he told me that drivers who talk on cell phones are as impaired as drunken drivers and that drivers who use a handheld device are four times more likely to get into a crash serious enough to cause injury (FocusDriven.org). In fact that is completely false. Why just last week I drove home drunk from the big hat contest! I can tell you from experience it is completely different when you see four roads in front of you than when you are talking on the cell phone! That officer simply did not know what he was talking about! As for the “crash serious enough to cause injury”, my last crash only broke my pinkie toe so it should not count! It is irrelevant that the other person broke their femur. Besides, I am sure learning to walk on crutches was very character building for them. They really needed that since they couldn’t even put a sentence together when they were yelling at me! Furthermore, we...
