The NSW Department of Health was established in 1921. It is a large provider of health services for people in NSW. They support the government in health and hospital systems, focusing primarily on healthcare and early intervention. The department of health encourage a better healthcare system for people living in rural and remote areas and improve health education.
Scientific evidence shows that smoking is the principal cause of disease and, not only death, however accompanied by years of disabling health problems. (dept of health) The NSW department of health is very keen on offering a quitline to assist smokers trying to give up through providing a guide for healthcare professionals on supporting smoking cessation.

Examples of data relevant to work area
The NSW department of health provides cessation of smoking guidelines for GP’s and other practicing health professionals so that they can identify smokers and assist them to quit. Smoking and health information from the internet should come from reliable sources and indicate ownership of sites, for example links from government (.gov) and organisational (.org) are dependable websites. The department of health provides policies and programs to help increase a healthier Australia by eradicating and reducing tobacco exposure. The Australian National Preventive Health Agency (ANPHA) promotes health changes in smoking and disease for a healthier Australia. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) promote better health and wellbeing and provide authoritative information and statistics and showed that Australia has one of the lowest smoking rates in the world. The cancer council is a renowned community charity dedicated to beat cancer through prevention strategies and research in new treatments and cures. With so many users and so much health information available on the internet the Internet Healthcare Coalition has created a quality health resource online to ensure that organisations who provide information on line uphold quality information through eHealth code of ethics. (Mack, 2000) World Health Organization (WHO), the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) along with the Coalition encourage reliable health information and promote an online health-fraud reporting website.
