In the end, though the era of British Imperialism in India played a significant role in India’s development into the modern world, it also came at a price. Regardless what was lost, a great deal was gained because India was able to not only increase its population, but also make the people smarter and healthier in the process. The way some of India’s residents were living before the age of Imperialism was not good, so if it didn’t do anything else positive – it helped them live better!

Fortunately, India was rich in tea, indigo, and jute which made the British economy bloom like never. If it wouldn’t have been for the cotton found in Indian lands , cotton would have been a rare material to be found during the American Civil war that made it unavailable for the British to extract it from the South American region, therefore , the cotton prices would have went up creating an economic crisis leading to a total shift of the history .
Anyhow , the negative effects of British Imperialism had its downfalls for India . Famine , loss of money and racism which led to a loss of culture and dependency. The worst effect it had on Indian population was the loss of culture which came in the form of losing past recession. England commended Indians to buy products that were created in England rather than buying their own cheaper made items.
Moreover , famine crushed the population where Britain wanted the crops to be sold in cash . The problem with that was that most Indians weren’t able to buy the food; therefore many died from starvation. The major social negative effect that was experienced was due to the fact that imperialism in India lasted for more than 190 years . The local industries were crushed and the Indians had no say in important government positions.Prior to Britain ruling over India there were many more diverse skilled labors such as glassblowing and paper making . This shows that the British disturbed the caste system which was a system that decided what work would you do for example you would do what your father did. Indians ended this industry which had a great effect on the country.
Forcefully putting English culture in the land , made the rich Hindu culture get almost completely lost in the process . If it wouldn’t have been for the British Imperialism Hinduism would be widespread and much more famous and the world would be a little less monotonous and a bit more diverse. The other negative aspect was that those from Britain who lived in India treated Indian residents as if they were below them in every aspect , causing a racism issue since they felt superior then the local population.
