New Trier has changed over the years since Kozol last reported the school in Savage Inequalities. There are two New Trier campuses in Illinois, one in Northfield, and the other in Winnetka. The Northfield campus opened on August 2001 and started the freshmen program there. The classroom average has decreased from twenty-four students to twenty-two point seven. The ration between students and teachers is thirteen point eight. The teachers' salary has gone up from sixty thousand dollars to seventy-six thousand four hundred and ninety-nine dollars. Administrators receive an annual salary of one hundred and twenty-six thousand dollars. New Trier mostly hires teachers with master's degree. The percentage of teachers with only a bachelor's degree is about seventeen percent compared to eighty-two percent with master's degree. New Trier holds the same seven foreign languages: Latin, Hebrew, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and Japanese. Nine hundred and ninety-two students graduated in 2003 and about ninety-five percent of the students went into college. The number of black students dropped from one point three to point 6. Hispanics are in the chart at one point five students in the school. Nine point two students are Asian. White students dominate the school with eighty-eight point five percent. The local property taxes went up from three hundred and forty thousand dollars to an estimated $50,240,899. The average expenditure per student is about fourteen thousand dollars. Academically, New Trier has advanced up. According to the Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE), the high averages for all exams including math, science, reading, writing, and social science were in the level three and level four areas. Level three is meeting course standards and level four is above meeting standards. Ninety-one point four percent took the ACT exam, and the overall that took the ACT in Illinois is ninety-three percent. The average ACT score in Illinois is twenty. New Trier students averaged twenty-six point three in the ACT. The SAT exam results were very impressive. The average score throughout Illinois is 1179, and New Trier made the above average of 1244. The physical surroundings have not changed since Kozol's Savage Inequalities. The circular driveways still exist and white-columned homes still roam the neighborhood. New Trier installed clubs online such as: Japanese club, Lagniappe/Potpourri, AIDS, coalition, and so forth. Inside the school, clubs can go as far as Habitat for Humanity, AIDS awareness day, auctions, carnivals, and etc. The programs are astounding. New Trier offers programs such as kinetic wellness, post-high school counseling, technology education, business education and much more.
