We can see advertising everywhere around us, in the streets, television, magazine and radio. Currently most companies are finding different ways to sell their products. Advertising expert try to appeal to young peoples needs and feeling making their product attractive and desirable. As a result this affects young people to drink alcohol and eat junk food. This essay will explain that advertising increases young peoples obesity and encourages them to drink alcohol.
Advertising affect young peoples obesity in different ways. The first way is television advertising increases young people obesity. For example, television is a way to talk directly to children by showing unhealthy advertising. According to Ruskin (2003) in 1977 when the National Science Foundation found that advertising is effective to create a desire. As a result the companies notice the power of television advertising on young people (Ruskin 2003). Another example, the average American child watches more than thousands hours per year, which mean seeing thousands of advertisements for fast food and junk food (Ruskin 2003). The result of this is high calorie gained by more television watching (Ruskin 2003). Another way is hidden advertising which seem to us that they are not advertisements. For instance, children books are targeted by the advertising companies like, Hersheys Chocolates, M&Ms, Froot Loops, Resses Pieces, Oreo Cookies and Skittles (Ruskin 2003). Furthermore, commercial have spread through schools we can see the children playing basketball on Coca-Cola goals and use Coca-Cola tablets to record their notes (Ruskin 2003). Another example, is when young people are affected by the advertising found in movies such as, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, which displays the advertising of Coca-Cola (Ruskin 2003). Also the movie E.T. when it shows E.T. eating Reeses Pieces (Ruskin 2003). Consequently these products have a great impact on youth to go and buy the products...
