VaidyaFebruary 26, 2010IntroductionInequality at work exists in every part of the world, whether it is against your class, ethnicity or most commonly because of your gender. Now a day, even though employers never recognize the discrimination that their company projects to their employees, those who experience such prejudice actions in negative ways think otherwise. Workers are not distributed to jobs based exclusively on their qualifications and interests; instead their sex, race, and ethnicity contribute strong effects on the industries and occupations in which they work and thus the jobs they hold. Segregation facilitates unequal treatment in part because the jobs which women and people of color are assigned are naturally less desirable than those that are open to white Anglo men. In addition, jobs which are done by women and perhaps minorities are devalued because society itself fails to recognize women and minorities.Gender inequality in the work place is one of the high rated issues that have been publicly ringing through society for years. Gender inequality refers to the obvious or hidden differences among individual based on gender performances. Racial segregation in the workplace is of the same order of magnitude as gender segregation, but segregation between Hispanics and whites is yet larger. Only a tiny portion of racial segregation in the workplace is driven by education differences between blacks and whites, but a substantial fraction of ethnic segregation in the workplace can be attributed to differences in language proficiency. Another factor to inequalities in the workplace can be tied to the class which one associates with. Very often a lower class worker is treated in a very different way then middle or a higher class employee in the same location.GenderWomen are, and have been, entering the workplace in rapid numbers. Although some women may face workplace discrimination, evidence shows that middle- and upper-class women are flourishing in many ways. When talking about women in the workplace; often the term "glass ceiling" is used. It refers to the imaginary career barrier that seemingly questions a woman's ability to rise to the top ranks of her profession, while men effortlessly continue up in the ranks. I am going to look into the inequalities of women in the general workforce.The presence of women in the workforce has been growing steadily and now, more than ever, women can be felt in almost every aspect of the workplace.
