Informatics is known as putting data into information (Hebda & Czar, 2013). This is significant to nursing and health care because healthcare workers use informatics everyday. Through the use of technology, data is taken and transcribed into information in healthcare. I will use software to input a client’s information; I can use it to communicate with other healthcare workers and share needed information. Informatics develops my career as a nurse and helps me advance the maximum effort I can put in as a healthcare worker. In the future, informatics will affect healthcare in various ways. The issues in nursing and health care that are faced are medical errors and time management. Healthcare workers are only human and people make mistakes. Informatics reduces the risk for those mistakes. Also, informatics can save time for tasks that may be done by a computer. Due to those issues, the future of informatics will grow vastly to resolve those issues. For example, wireless monitoring devices are now being developed to help nurse call systems and provide portable electronic records (Cipriano, 2011). Also, there are systems that manage workflow and improve patient flow. As more systems and programs advance, the future of nursing informatics will flourish. Nursing will continue to develop those changes as professionals provide feedback about what informatics. When issues arise, nurses should present those issues to impact nursing informatics in patient care. Informatics will continue to progress as more professionals pursue the field of technology in healthcare.
Informatics is a vital part of nursing and I intend to have a role as I pursue nursing. The nurse’s role is increasing when using informatics. Nurse informaticists are nurses who use their computer-literacy skills to develop the health care system technology such as computers, simulations, and any other electronic devices (Stevens, 2010).
