Estos términos son de uso frecuente en el mundo empresarial. Al mismo tiempo, son esenciales para las empresas, ya que estos ayudan a los administradores y gerenciales a alcanzar los planes y estrategias propuestas. Existen una variedad de significados asociados con estos términos; son disciplinas que cruzan las fronteras y deben ser entendidos de una manera integrada.La innovación puede ser definida como un "estado de ánimo" y el acto de desarrollar una idea en su forma física, tales como, un nuevo producto, servicio o proceso (Von Stamm, B. 2003). Se pueden catalogar como una innovación de producto, las cosas que una organización ofrece, la innovación en los procesos y la forma en la cual son creados y entregados. Se componen de dos componentes: la implementación y la creatividad. La implementación es poner ideas en práctica y se compone de tres aspectos: selección de ideas, el desarrollo y la comercialización (Von Stamm, B. 2003).La innovación se trata de comportarse de forma diferente, organizada, estructurada y con un enfoque metodológico y sistemático que no puede dejarse al azar. Las organizaciones necesitan procesos, procedimientos y estructuras para lograr una aplicación para que los proyectos sean completados en el momento oportuno. Si bien la aplicación es poner una idea en la práctica, la creatividad es el proceso fundamental del negocio de desarrollo de la idea básica desde el principio (Von Stamm, B. 2003). La creatividad es una parte esencial de la innovación y es el acto de desarrollar una idea, pensar diferente, ser diferente, haciendo nuevas conexiones en el desarrollo de una idea.En cambio la creatividad se define como la gracia (divina inspiración, las ideas que me vienen a la mente), accidentes (casuales), asociación (pensamiento lateral y la lluvia de ideas), personalidad (una habilidad humana particular, una parte intrínseca de la vida y el crecimiento, el talento natural que dirige la atención hacia la eliminación de las barreras mentales y la creatividad) y cognitivas (la creatividad se basa en el proceso cognitivo normal, como el reconocimiento, el razonamiento y la comprensión) (Von Stamm, B. 2003).La creatividad, si se aplica para el uso individual o dentro de un contexto empresarial, no es necesariamente un momento de inspiración, sino más bien es la culminación de todo un proceso de conocimientos adquiridos por varios años de refinamiento en el arte, historia, ciencias y matemáticas.
